Lot Essay

The exuberance and quality of the mounts conceived in the Louis XV style are typical of the very best of French craftmanship in the second half of the 19th century. A pair of large Berlin porcelain vases with very similar mounts signed BORMANN was sold Sotheby's London, November 3, 1976 raising the possibility that these mounts may be by this same maker.
