Claude-Louis Burgatt was elected maître in 1766.
Although the CL.BG stamp has traditionally been identified with Clement Bergez, the presence of Burgat's stamp as well on these fauteuils confirms that 'CL. BG' was another stamp employed by Burgat. Extensively patronised by the King of Sweden, these fauteuils are related in form to the pair stamped by Burgat from the Von Hirsch collection (sold at Sotheby's London, 23 June 1978, lot 614).
A closely related C-scroll cabochon-centred seat-rail features on a fauteuil stamped by Etienne Meunier and illustrated in G. Janneau, Les Sièges, Paris, 1967, p.75, fig.133.
