Each in the form of a classically clad young maiden holding a cornucopia issuing foliate scroll arms with urn-shaped bobêches, on cylindrical pedestal mounted with draped grape-vines and a leaf-tip-cast rim on shaped plinth

Lot Essay

These candelabra derive from a design of circa 1785, possibly from the catalogue of the marchand-mercier Dominique Daguerre (see H. Ottomeyer/P. Pröschel et al., Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, vol. 1, p. 283, fig. 14.4). Other eighteenth century candelabra of this model are in the Wallace Collection (see F.J.B. Watson, Furniture, 1956, fig. 18) and the Musée du Louvre (see P. Verlet, The Eighteenth Century in France, 1967, p. 30, fig. 21).
