Arthur Morgan is recorded as an apprentice to Louis Solon circa 1877 and later at Doulton decorating pâte-sur-pâte vases. See E. Aslin and P. TG62-70, pl. 93 for a centerpiece painted by Lawrence Birks from the dessert service shown in the Paris Exhibition of 1889. A similar centerpiece was sold in these rooms on 31 October 2000, lot 263 and a similar pair of bottle coolers decorated by Alboin Birks sold 23 April 2004, lot 376.
