Lot Essay

These tables and the following lot were supplied to Farnham Castle, Co. Cavan, probably as part of the rearranging and refurnishing of the house that took place in the late 1830s. It is possible that they were supplied slightly earlier when the 4th Baron (and last Earl of) Farnham employed Francis Johnson to alter the house built by James Wyatt in the 1780s.
An etagère of very similar design, and almost certainly by the same maker, was offered anonymously, Sotheby's London, 1 March 1991, lot 41.
