A PAIR OF PORTUGUESE SILVER-GILT EWERS LISBON, CIRCA 1750, MAKER'S MARK J:S, ATTRIBUTED TO JOAQUIM DOS SANTOS Each spirally fluted inverted pear shaped and on spreading foot, chased with flowers and foliage, with scroll handle, the hinged covers with quilting and foliage thumbpiece, one marked on foot with maker's mark and on handle with town mark and maker's mark, the other marked on foot with maker's mark and town mark; both marked with town mark and maker's mark inside cover 17 3/4 in. (45 cm.) high 213 oz. 10 dwt. (8,606 gr.)

Probably Gregory de Ligne Gregory (1786-1854) of Harlaxton Manor, Lincolnshire, by bequest to, Sir Glynne Earle Welby-Gregory 3rd Bt. (1806-1875) and then by descent.
