THE PROPERTY OF A LADY
Post Lot Text
The cabochon ruby featured in one of the clips was originally mounted in an oft-worn stick pin belonging to Mr. James Deering (1859-1925), Vice President and founder of the International Harvester Company. Mr. Deering built the legendary Villa Vizcaya, an Italian Renaissance estate on Miami's Biscayne Bay, which he used as a winter retreat from 1916 until his death. The family had the ruby remounted within these Cartier gem-set clips, which were handed down through generations, at one point belonging to Cynthia Howe Armour, whose grandmother, Abby, was the sister of Mr. Deering. Mrs. Armour spent much of her childhood at the Villa and recalls fond memories of her 'Uncle Jim'.
