The knot count is 9H x 9V per cm. sq. and 8H x 8V per cm. sq.
Each piece is signed; 'The work of Hajji Mulla Husayn Aqa' with further cartouches filled with Persian couplets above.
The name "Mohtasham" has become synonymous with a particular type of Kashan rug of which Hajji Mulla Husayn's weavings share many of the same characteristics as demonstrated here in this silk prayer rug. Only one published example of a silk prayer rug contains the signauture of Hajji Mullah Muhammed Hasan Mohtashem', this is discussed by Ian Bennett in: 'The Myth of Mohtashem', Hali, 35, pp. 44-49.
