A very similar vase, with red rather than blue key-fret borders, from the C. Ruxton and Audrey B. Love Collection, was sold in these rooms, 20 October 2004, lot 695.
The use of large gilt-copper appliques on cloisonné enamel vessels appears to be quite rare, but two gilt-copper dragons similar to those on the present vases can be seen on a Qianlong mark and period cloisonné vase of a different form and slightly smaller size (59.5 cm. high) illustrated in Zhongguo meishu quanji; gongyi meishu bian 10, Beijing, 1987, p. 184, no. 332.
