A pair of Vienna plates from the George IV Service
Impressed date-codes for 1817 and 1819, the decoration circa 1820, blue shield marks and painter's purple 18. marks, one with Pressnummer 23, the other with 32
Each finely painted with three large bouquets of flowers across the borders and wells, the wells edged with gilt ogival ornament, the pale-brown ground borders reserved with three pale-blue circular panels with rose, shamrock and thistle and flanked with gilt anthemion palmettes, within bright and matt gilt bands, gilt line rims (restored rim chip to both)
9 5/8 in. (24.4 cm.) and 9¾ in. (24.6 cm.) diam. (2)

Lot Essay

18 was the mark used at this period by the painter Joseph Megerle.
