This pair of fauteuils was part of an important suite of Louis XV giltwood seat furniture attributed to Nicolas Heurtaut from the Collection of Victor Rothschild Esq. included in the catalogue of the contents of 148 Piccadilly sold Sotheby's London, 19-22 April 1937 as lots 393 and 394 but withdrawn before the sale. These copies must have been made after the suite came to England.
