A PARTHIAN TERRACOTTA GOAT VESSEL
CIRCA 3RD-1ST CENTURY B.C.
The waisted body with broad hips and shoulders flattened at either end, the bearded goat with short curved horns and bulbous eyes, standing on four short legs, the vessel's cylindrical mouth emerging from the back of the neck, small short nozzle between the forelegs, 8¼ in. (21 cm.) high; a similar Amlash terracotta ram rhyton, the muzzle forming the short spout, with curled notched horns, incised circular eyes, 6¾ in. (17.1 cm.) high; and an Amlash terracotta stylized bird askos, the body with vertical grooves and cylindrical mouth on the back, loop handle at the rear and pinched spout at the front, on tripod legs, 5½ in. (14 cm.) high, both early 1st millennium B.C., all repaired (3)
