Mike and Sue Richardson
Many collectors will remember the tall figure, clad in a fawn belted lightweight coat, poring over stalls at collectors' meets, in the 1980s. His enormous collection of Dinky Toys both French and English was built up with great assiduity and is not just large but full of variations and rarities. If there was the slightest difference in colour, construction or box, he must have it. Whether buying from a dealer, collector, shop or at auction, he engaged in memorable financial duels with other enthusiasts.
The result of his sourcing so widely is this unparalleled collection, containing rare and unusual models as well as the standard items of any good Dinky collection. Of remark are the colour variations and his outstanding collection of South African assembled Dinky Toys, most of which are accompanied by boxes with Afrikaans wording, which must be one of the biggest and best assembled.
This extraordinary collection offers collectors an unparalleled opportunity to see in detail the numerous possible variations of Dinky Toy car production.
The greater part of the collection was arranged in a remarkable display, with boxes stored separately. Every effort has been made to inspect each piece minutely and to reunite it with a box of the correct type and period, where applicable.
