cf. Domus, March 1931; Franco Deboni, Murano '1900', 1996, p. 265 for an illustration of the model.
Before founding his own glassworks firm of Zecchin-Martinuzzi Vetri Artistici e Mosaici with Francesco Zecchin in 1932, Napoleone Martinuzzi served as the artistic director for Venini & C. His experiments with glass resulted in some of the most exquisite and sophisticated works of art glass produced in the 20th century, and his designs in the 'pulegoso' technique were introduced in 1928. These majestic vessels have long been admired for their robust forms, sculptural qualities, strong colors, and infusion with innumerable air bubbles. This model was displayed at the Amsterdam Vetri, ceramiche e merletti exhibition in 1931.
