The rectangular top above a slant lid opening to reveal a compartmented interior fitted with two valanced pigeonholes over a short drawer flanked by document drawers each with engaged columns, further flanked by four pigeonholes above drawers, all over a central reserve flanked by drawers, above a rectangular case fitted with four graduated drawers, all on a molded frame with a central shaped drop, on cabriole legs with padded disc feet, appears to retain its original brasses

Lot Essay

With its striking figured grain, shaped drop pendant skirt and sharply kneed cabriole legs, this desk is a remarkable survival from mid-18th century Massachusetts. A slant-front desk sharing the same features as the one offered here was sold in these Rooms, 2 June 1990, lot 201.
