For a slightly different model of this group see P.J. Donnelly, Blanc de Chine, New York/Washington, 1969, pl. 105 (bottom left), where it is identified as 'Peeping Tom'. In discussing a group of a man and woman illustrated by R. Kerr and J. Ayers, Blanc de Chine: Porcelain from Dehua, Chicago, 2002, no. 31, the authors note that the subject may allude to a "scene from a popular story or theatrical of the time." They also note that groups of this type have been referred to as 'assignation groups'.
