The present example differs from its apparently similar relations in three main ways, making it a great rarity among the group. Firstly, the breaking waves are painted around the handles rather than as a broad band around the neck between the handles. Secondly, the presence of a key-pattern band dividing the neck and body decoration is an unusual feature. Thirdly, the lotus scroll depicts flowers in profile rather than fully frontal as in closely related vases.
