Pindar the Panda, is a character created and written by Peter Howard, and illustrated by David Low, the political cartoonist. Pindar's story appeared in London's Evening Standard newspaper each day in the late 1930s.
The identification of this Panda is the result of an extensive search and an article which appeared in the 'Teddy Bear Club International' magazine in January 2001. On pages 22, 23 and 24 Elspeth Grindlay charts her research and also her purchase of the only other Chiltern Pinda these rooms have auctioned in December 1999. Elspeth's discovery of an advert in 'Games and Toys', June 1939 issue shows an H.G. Stone & Co, exclusive Chiltern Toy design of Low's creation.
