The inside of the base bears an Imperial inventory label, inscribed Yu Yiqian Qibai Ershisan Hou, 'Imperial No. 1723'.
Compare the style and colour of the enamelling with the archaistic zun-shaped doucai vase illustrated in Kangxi, Yongzheng, Qianlong, from the Palace Museum Collection, p. 199, col. pl. 28. Significantly this Imperial vase also bears a Chenghua nianhao rather than a contemporary reign mark. After selecting doucai enamels for the decoration of an ancient bronze shape, the emphasis on archaism sought after is then further endorsed by the Chenghua mark.
