Lot Essay

Two other small cloisonné circular boxes of this type, also with lotus decoration, have been published: one by H. Brinker and A. Lutz, Chinese Cloisonné: The Pierre Uldry Collection, Asia Society, New York, 1989, no. 207, which is dated to second half 17th century; the other dated late 16th century was included in the exhibition, Miniature Oriental Works of Art, Gerard Hawthorn Ltd., Oriental Art, London, November 2003, no. 6. Based on the style of the scrolling leaves on the present box, it is more likely that it is late 17th or first half of the 18th century.
