A rectangular cinnabar lacquer box and cover, 16th/17th Century
carved in relief with figures entering a walled garden on a donkey surrounded by rockwork and foliage on a star motif diaper ground, the side panels with pheonix in flight amongst large flowering peony sprays, the slightly flared base with geometric patterned border - 5 1/8in. (13cm) wide.
