The above shirt is presumed to be a 'spare' shirt from the 1931-32 F.A.Cup final, played at Wembley on 23rd April 1932 before 92,298 spectators, Newcastle United defeating Arsenal 2-1. This Cup final contained one of the most disputed goals ever in the history of the F.A.Cup. With Newcastle trailing Arsenal 1-0, a long pass from a Newcastle player saw Jimmy Richardson appear to cross the ball into the penalty box after it had ran-over the line for a bye-kick with Jack Allen scoring easily. The referee who was well outside the penalty-box and with no linesman near the run of play gave the goal. In the second-half Allan found the net again to win the Cup for Newcastle.
An identical shirt worn by George Male in the final was sold in these rooms, Lot 101, 20th June 1998.
