Of rectangular form, the centrally hinged lid opening to a blue leather-inset writing surface and covered compartments, with a pair of covered inkwells, the uppermost writing surface enclosing a storage compartment, the lower writing surface lifting to reveal a secret compartment, decorated with bands of foliate scrolls inaid in contrapartie, with inset brass handles to sides, lockplate stamped J.BRAMAH/194 PICCADILLY, with a paper label to underside of secret compartment inscribed Robinson & Sons/Manufacturers/of Ladies and Gentlemans/Dressing Cases, Writing Desks &c./53, Great Queen Street/Lincolns Inn Fields
