This mirror closely relates to several girandole mirrors made by Thomas Fentham of The Strand. Fentham, carver, gilder, glass grinder and picture-frame maker, occupied several addresses on the Strand between 1774 and 1825. His label appears on closely related convex mirrors illustrated in C. Gilbert, Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture 1700-1840, Leeds, 1996, pp. 28 and 204-205, figs. 344-347. Another convex mirror by Fentham was sold by the Executors of the late Marquess of Abergavenny, K.G., O.B.E., in these Rooms, 5 April 2001, lot 198.
