William Atkinson's hand-drawn designs 'Sketches for Benches for Octagon Vestibule and Ante Room, Scone' is held in the Scone Palace Family Archive. The designs dated April 6th 1813 include the design for the low benches that remain at Scone and are similar in character to the stand of the present cabinet. The present stand differs from the benches by the inclusion of the Murray armorial mullet and the fact that it is decorated on only three sides. The stools are decorated on four sides.
The cabinet-stand, displaying the Murray armorial mullet (five-pointed star), is further embellished with flowered quatrefoils and cusp-arched frets in the robust baronial antique gothic fashion adopted by the architect William Atkinson (d.1839).
