    Lot Essay

This fender with its intricate brass inlaid into steel is characteristic of the designs of George Bullock and manufactured by his principal metalworker W.S.Summers of New Bond Street. The Summers firm, listed variously in directories of 1819 and 1820 as 'ironmonger' and 'stove manufacturer' was also a buyer of the metalwork lots at the Christie's 'Stock in trade' sale of Bullocks workshop. (Furniture History vol.XXV, p.153).
