A sidebooard with strikingly similar features now at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, is illustrated in "Current and Coming," Antiques (January 1979), p.48. The overall format, configuration of inlaid panels and character of the gilt-incised surfaces of both cabinets are comparable. The painted porcelain plaque, centrally mounted within several concentric rings of inlaid and gilded decoration are nearly identically ornamented and arranged on both as well. The cabinet in Los Angeles is attributed to Leon Marcotte (active circa 1848-1880), however, many New York City firms produced similarly shaped and decorated objects. Another sideborad with similar decorative aspects, attributed to Pottier & Stymus (active circa 1875-1895), Sold in these Rooms, October 8, 1998, lot 90.
