Lot Essay

A drawing of a clock with a base of related design, from a bronzier's album of eleven drawings attributed to Soyez, currently in the Musée des arts décoratifs, Paris, is illustrated in Ottomeyer/Proschel Vergoldete Bronzen, Klinkhardt & Biermann, Munich 1986, Vol.I, p.378, fig. 5.15.17. The tableau illustrated on the octagonal panel differs but is thematically similar with its depiction of chivalric virtue.
