A ROMAN BRONZE SHIP'S PROW ORNAMENT
CIRCA 1ST CENTURY B.C.-1ST CENTURY A.D.
With a bust of Isis Pelagia projecting from the end of an upward-tapering hexagonal shaft, the goddess leaning forward, her head turned to her left, her oval face with sharply-modelled arching brows that merge with and form a continuous profile with the bridge of her slender nose, her large articulated eyes with heavy upper lids and drooping lower lids, her full lips slightly parted, her hair center parted and pulled up above her ears and tied in a chignon, a single strand falling before her left ear, wearing a crescentic diadem fronted by a solar disk flanked by uraei, her chiton with an open V-neckline beneath a heavy himation, wrapped tightly around her body revealing her voluptuous form beneath, with a thick twist of fabric across her chest forming ridged folds over her left shoulder, the himation pulled up over the top of her head as a veil, deeply undercut along the sides emphasizing her long graceful neck, the sturdy shaft hollow on the interior for insertion of a wooden beam, with two perforated loops along the back edge for attachment, a large loop on the upper surface for the securing of rigging
