Although this piece is unsigned, it is certainly attributable to George Owen. It is well known that Owen did not sign his earlier pieces, so to find a signature on this would be peculiar. More than likely, this piece was never completed as it had sagged somewhat which caused the piercing some distress. It is tempting to associate the inscription with E.P. Evans, Managing Director from 1887-1915, as this piece was listed on the bill immediately below the teapot (see lot 336) 'formerly the property of Mr. Evans of the Royal Worcester Works'. Mr. Evans started with the firm in 1867 and his son Edward George was also a member of staff, at one point representing them in Chicago.
