Post Lot Text
Born Esfandiari Bakghtiari in 1932, Princess Soraya married the Shah of Iran when she was 19 years old. The marrage ended in divorce six years later because she was incapable of producing an heir. After the divorce, Princess Soraya lived in exile in Europe where she befriended European high society and the cinema world. Known as one of the most glamorous women of her day, she split her time between Italy, Germany and France. Just before she was to remarry the film director Franco Indovina, he died in a tragic car accident. Dubbed the "Sad Princess", she died on October 25, 2001 at her home in Paris.
