FORMALLY THE PROPERTY OF GENERAL NGUYEN-VAN-THIEU
This oval-cut ruby ring, lot 183, once belonged to General Nguyen Van Thieu, president of the former Republic of South Vietnam. Growing up as the son of a small landowner, he quickly aspired to politics during his youth and sought high positions in Vietnamese government. His ambition and skillful military career led to his appointment as president in 1967, where he remained until 1975. During his time in office and throughout the rest of his life, he was known to have always worn this ring, as illustrated in the feature cover of Time magazine dated 15 September 1967. The General considered this ring a prized possession and wore it until his death in 29 September 29, 2001.
