The inscription, which is in Persian, laments the death of a khwaja. The wording indicates that it is either taken from a sufi poet or that it was made for a sufi tomb. The upper arched inscription panel appears to have been re-inscribed shortly after it was first made, which makes interpretation difficult. In two places the word sahib is clearly legible, but the names are not possible fully to decipher. The date is written faintly to one side of this upper inscription.
