Recommendation states 'For prompt action in changing over to the undamaged oil fuel tank after hitting the submarine - the tank actually being steamed on having a hole approximately 12ft. by 1ft. in it - thus preventing the ship being brought to a stop and later in prompt measures taken to assess damage to the ship and great assistance in shoring up operations'.

Chief Stoker Arthur Harry Capelin, D.S.M., was decorated for his services aboard the Destroyer H.M.S. Broadway (Ex-U.S.S. Hunt) on the occasion of the destruction of the U-110 in the North Atlantic on 10.4.1941, and Mentioned in Depatches in the New Year's Honours List of 1944 for services aboard the same ship.
