PROPERTY FROM THE COLLECTION OF CHARLES F. FISH
Charles F. Fish was born in 1859 at Fall River, Massachusetts. He traveled west in 1875, and became enraptured with the west and all that it entailed. Although he would return to Massachusetts to continue his career as Chief Bookeeper for the Granite Mill in Fall River, he would never forget the visions he saw on the frontier. He began to avidly collect western photography, ordering his subjects from many different photographers who specialized in Native Americans, wild west showmen, cowboys and mountain men. His wonderful collection consists of very early images, and was proudly displayed at the Museum of Natural History in New York. Many of the photographs retain the original labels from the museum with the exhibition and date. Charles F. Fish died in December of 1940 leaving this exciting collection of photography to his family.
