Including two armchairs, each with tablet toprail above a horizontal ropetwist splat flanked by channelled supports above the red leather upholstered seat, on turned tapering legs, restorations (8)

Lot Essay

A related set of twelve Regency mahogany dining chairs with the rope-twist splat was sold anonymously in these Rooms, 6 October 1994, lot 106, and a further set of twelve was sold anonymously in these Rooms, 26 September, 1996, lot 148. Another example is illustrated in F.L. Hinkley A Directory of Antique Furniture, New York, 1953, p. 211, fig. 648. The present set of eight differs slightly from similar sets with the unusual foliate carving to the supports flanking the top rail.
