A SET OF JADEITE WUZI DENGKE

Depicting five jadeite figurines in celebration, representing the rebus "wuzi dengke" or "May all the sons attain highest honours in the Imperial examination", with a jadeite basket containing five grains representing the rebus "wugu fengshou" or "A good harvest"; all five figurines carved from translucent to semi-opaque materials of various colours; one boy plays a yao gu or small drum with a bat and clouds of ruyi motif; one boy sits on a money pouch, playing a suo na or horn and holding a lingzhi sceptre; one boy plays a Chinese gong; one boy holds a gold ingot; and one boy performs acrobatics with his buttock exposed and a dog to his right; together with a basket carved in semi-translucent pale green material with caramel brown patches, containing five vari-coloured jadeite grains of peppers, corns and gourds, all of good translucent to semi-opaque material (accompanied by a wooden stand with inscription in Chinese characters "wuzi dengke"), figurines approximately 8.4 to 10.0 cm high

With certificate no. KJ6619 dated 28 August 2004 from the Hong Kong Jade & Stone Laboratory stating that the boy tested is natural jadeite and no polymer is detected
