The arms are those of Scotland quartering Stewart and Moray impaling Gray, for Francis, 9th Earl of Moray (1737-1810) and his wife Jean (d.1786), daughter of John, 11th Baron Gray (1716-1782), whom he married in 1763. Lord Moray was a Representative Scottish Peer from 1784 until 1796, although a challenge was made in 1790 due to a plea that the Earldon should have descended to the daughter of Lord Doune, eldest brother of the 6th Earl, who predeceased his father.
