Jacques-Franois Swebach was active at Sèvres from 1802 to 1813.
This coupe hemispherique is almost certainly the one delivered to the comtesse de Montalivet in the New Year of 1812 (reference Vbb 4, folio 6 verso), which is described in the Sèvres archives as "1 coupe hemispherique à bouillon painted and coloured by Swebach with a horse race at the Champs de Mars on a blue ground with rich gilt border".
The work cost 555 francs and it was delivered to the shop on 31st December 1811 (reference Vu 1, folio 122 verso, no. 282-36), where it was sold for 700 francs. A carrying-box was also supplied at the cost of 20 francs.
