The payments records at Sèvres for 1807 (Vj l 14) note Caron as the painter of those pieces from the Service de l'archichancelier decorated with scattered insects on a fond ciel, Boitel as the gilder and Godin, aîné as the applier of the purple ground. The gilt D found on one of the compotiers à dauphin may be for Decambos. He is known to have worked on the dessert service presented by Napoleon to Monsieur François, former Bishop of Rennes, upon the occasion of the same wedding.
The inventory of what was delivered (fig. 2) lists the service as originally including four jattes, eight compotiers ronds, eight compotiers à dauphin and twenty-four assiettes à bordure seul decorated with insects.
