    A SEVRES REVOLUTIONARY CUP AND SAUCER
    BLUE SCRIPT RF MONOGRAM FOR THE REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE AND SCRIPT SEVRES MARKS FOR CIRCA 1793-1800, PAINTER'S MARKS FOR BINET AND GILDER'S MARK FOR CHAUVAUX, THE CUP INCISED 18
    Painted with a garland of pink roses between gilt-edged periwinkle blue ribbons further gilt with trailing vine, the decoration punctuated with medallions of similar ribbons gilt with beading enclosing trophies emblematic of the Revolution, those on the cup en grisaille, those on the saucer in colors, the lower portion of the cup and the basin of the saucer with scattered violets and gilt leaves

    Lot Essay

    Madame Marie-Gabrielle-Sophie Binet is recorded at Sèvres 1779-1798 as a painter specializing in flowers and patterns. Her colleague Jean Chauvaux jeune was active 1764-1800 initially as a gilder following in the footsteps of his father Michel-Barnabé and later as a painter of patterns.
