A tea caddy of similar design also featuring Japanese ivory plaques is illustrated in John Loring, Magnificent Tiffany Silver, 2001, p. 35. Loring speculates that the ivory plaques were purchased by English designer, Christopher Dresser, when he visited Japan in 1876-77 on a buying trip for Tiffany & Co.
