The above medallion is accompanied by a letter from a John F. Ridley Esq which states that the medallion was formerly the property of Bobby Moore, captain of the victorious England World Cup team. The following is an extract from the letter..... 'The story about the World Cup Medallion, and how I came to possess it, is, (al)though it happened thirty years ago is as clear now, as though it was only yesterday. As you can well imagine, every one connected with the English squad at the time was showered with gifts of all kinds. It just happened that on the night of the party at the Dorchester Hotel when they were all presented with the Global Medallion I was then, as now pouring the Moet and Chandon for the toasts..... The medallion was beside him (Bobby Moore) as I poured his wine, I picked it up to look at it, and he simply said would you like to have it? He took it back from me, kissed it closed the box and pushed it into my pocket.....'.
