See Gordon Elliott, John and David Elers (London, 1998), pl. 3c, for a closely similar teapot and cover in the collection of Hampshire County Museums. Elliott notes that this model follows that of a silver original, which was sold at Christie's New York, 18th April 1989, and which bears a London hallmark of 1682; p. 7, he notes that the brothers had relatives in London, who were both silversmiths and dealers in oriental works of art.
Another teapot of this model is in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London and a further example is at Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia. See also the stoneware example illustrated by Elliott, pl. 1; please also see the following lot in this sale. All the above have covers which share the same highly distinctive lion finial to the cover, which has a long, curved tail.
