A Steiff centre-seam teddy bear
with cinnamon mohair, black boot button eyes, pronounced clipped muzzle, black stitched nose, mouth and claws, swivel head, jointed elongated limbs with felt pads, hump and FF button in ear, circa 1906 --15¾in. (40cm.) high (a few small areas of thinning, front ankle seam open, nose stitching faded and some general fading); the owner's diary for 1905/08; public auction details of the disposal of the owner's estate and her funeral order of service
This was the childhood bear of Frieda Holden, born 28th June 1900 and died November 2nd, 1985 in Wichita, Kansas. Her parents gave her the bear on her 5th birthday. The accompanying diary details her trip to Europe.
