"Chameleon" diamonds are one of the great mysteries of the diamond world. It is still not known why these diamonds change from deep green to yellow when heated or left in darkness. Gemmological studies state that the change is due to an unstable colour centre. but do not explain the exact nature of the colour centres or why they are sensitive to ultra violet light. All that is known for certain is that these stones are very rare and vary a great deal in both the quality of the colours and extent of colour change.
This stone of over 4 carats, which transforms from a golden yellow tone to a deep olive green, ranging through various brilliant shades of yellowish green is undoubtedly among the best of its kind. It illustrates the best qualities of a chameleon diamond, a pure colour in the heated state, a beautiful transition colour and finally, a richly saturated green in daylight. These qualities make "Chameleons" among the most fascinating of coloured diamonds.
