GENEVA, CIRCA 1800, BEARING PRESTIGE MARKS, LATER STRUCK WITH THE VIENNESE DUTY MARK ('REPUNZE') OF 1806/1807
Rectangular box with concave cut corners, the panels on cover and base enamelled in opaque lavender blue and painted with classical figures with urns, foliate scrolls and laurel wreaths, the sides similarly painted with theatrical masks, the lid inset with an oval enamel plaque painted in sepia with a profile bust of a bearded classical philosopher or writer, within a gold mount enamelled with translucent green foliate scrolls and blue paillons within blue and white alternating enamel bands, the borders similarly decorated, the four corners with vases and flowers in gold and coloured paillons in translucent blue on a horizontally reeded guilloché ground, the base painted with central reserve of Athena
