A SWISS VARI-COLOUR GOLD SNUFF-BOX WITH JEWELLED THUMBPIECE
Geneva, circa 1770/1780, bearing prestige marks including one resembling the charge of Eloy Brichard
Rectangular box, the lid, four sides and base engraved with scrolling cartouches of a spider's web of concentric alternating reeded and polished gold zig-zags framed by fluted c-scrolls, the lid chased in four-colour gold with a nude lady leaning on a rock with flower vase, crowning a putto with another putto hovering above and charging his bow, the four sides and base similarly chased with trophies of love, music and with flowers, applied with a foliate silver-mounted old-mine cut diamond thumbpiece
