Andrew Christie is recorded at Clyde Place, Glasgow 1887-1902. It is most likely that he later became a partner with James Wilson under the trading style Christie & Wilson, Nautical Opticians, Broomielaw, Glasgow.
Christie made a practise of fitting his own dials to earlier chronometers. This is the case with No. 8091, the movement bears Thomas Mercer's works number 2646 which was issued circa 1876.
The box is of comparatively recent manufacture, having been made by L. Goff, Mercer's chronometer box maker in October 1985.
