A VERY FINE AND IMPORTANT "GINKO NUT" JADEITE CABOCHON AND DIAMOND RING The brilliant green high domed double sided cabochon of very good translucency, surrounded with a row of small tapered baguette-cut diamonds, to the brilliant cut diamond detail at the shoulders, circa 1960 Cabochon 21.0 x 14.9 x 9.5 mm From the 1930's the ideal shape for cabochons was considered the "ginko nut" (paiguo) shape, an elongated oval, high domed and rounded on both sides. Only the most translucent jadeite could be cut into this flattering and feminine shape, and emanated a soft glow, which were then set off by simple diamond mounts of great elegance
